Return to Performance Post Hamstring Injury - Dylan Carmody (VALD)

Welcome to the Performance & Sport Science Study Group Webinars. We invite speakers who complement the NSCA’s Essentials of Sport Science textbook, demonstrating how the NSCA CPSS chapter concepts are applied in real-world scenarios! In this webinar, Dylan Carmody, a physical therapist with VALD, presents on the topic of return-to-performance following hamstring injuries.

The session covers the epidemiology, anatomy, injury mechanisms, risk factors, testing modalities, and rehabilitation strategies related to hamstring injuries, particularly in professional athletes. The discussion also includes practical insights into assessment methods using Vald’s technology (e.g., NordBoard), focusing on strength tests, force production, and force trace analysis to monitor rehabilitation progress and readiness to return to sport. The session outlines the rehabilitation continuum from acute protection and activation to strength, control, training integration, and final return to performance, emphasizing accessory muscle training (calves, glutes, quads, adductors) and neuromuscular control.
