Practical Considerations in Heat Acclimation to Enhance Exercise Performance - Yasuki Sekiguchi
Welcome to the Performance & Sport Science Study Group Webinars, we invite speakers who complement the NSCA’s Essentials of Sport Science textbook, demonstrating how the NSCA CPSS chapter concepts are applied in real-world scenarios!
The webinar features Dr. Yasuki, an expert in sports performance and environmental physiology, who discusses practical heat mitigation strategies to enhance exercise performance. He is also the author of "Chapter 25. Environmental Stress" in the NSCA Essentials of Sport Science Textbook. He covers the physiological impacts of heat on athletes, the importance of heat acclimation, and various hydration and cooling methods to improve performance.
Dr. Yasuki shares his experience working with national teams, discussing how they implemented heat acclimation for preparation leading to major events like the Tokyo Olympics. Important adaptations from heat acclimation include increased sweat rate, lower core temperatures, and improved exercise performance capacity across various disciplines. These adaptations can improve performance not just in heat but also in cooler environments.
